The National Indigenous Youth Leadership Academy (NIYLA) focuses on mobilising Indigenous young people to lead positive change across Australia. NIYLA achieves this by empowering participants to create youth-led national campaigns that address a variety of social issues.
In 2013, NIYLA participants campaigned on Constitutional Recognition, Indigenous Education, Suicide Awareness, Climate Change, and Refugees and Asylum Seekers. In 12 weeks, NIYLA participants achieved 5,485 YouTube views, 4,450 Facebook like and featured in/on newspapers, blogs, television and radio.
In 2014 NIYLA will bring together 50 Indigenous young people to:
1. Build a national network of likeminded Indigenous young leaders;
2. Identify social issues that they are passionate about; and
3. Develop national campaigns that address these issues.
