I first started volunteering when I joined scouts, at around 9 years old. Over the years they gave me many opportunities to volunteer, most of which I took and enjoyed. I've made many life-long friends, and a few good contacts to boot. From there I started volunteering with WorldVision and AYCC, having a great time while doing it. Now, 7 years after starting, I'm seeing more of this world's problem's that need fixing - and how easy it is to help.
At first my Mum didn't approve, saying it cost her more than it was worth, so I had to organize most of my time. That generally meant choosing between friends, family, reading, or volunteering. Thankfully, I mostly chose volunteering, and I doubt I'll ever be able to, or want to, stop volunteering.
