Ditch the plastic bottle!

Plastic water bottles take up to 1000 years to break down. Switch to a reusable bottle.

Bottled water is SO popular in Australia - especially now that the weather is getting hot. But did you know that those disposable plastic bottles are having a huge effect on the environment?

Most bottled water is packaged in PET plastic bottles which are derived from crude oil. It can take up to 3 litres of water to produce a 1 litre water bottle. And although these bottles are recyclable, many of them end up in landfill, where they can take up to 1000 years to break down.

So what can you do?

Buy a re-usable bottle, like one made of aluminium or Nalgene, and switch to tap water! You'll reduce the number of disposable bottles that end up in landfill, and save a bunch of money while you're at it.

Take a photo of your reusable water bottle, and post it here. And if you want to learn more about bottled water, check out this great fact sheet from the team at Cleanup.org.au
